New Extreme Sports

Extreme Air
Innovative new extreme sports with mega air include mega ramp skateboarding.  This is 100 feet jumps that push the boundaries of any normal ramp.  Danny Way has set two world records for the world's longest jump and the highest air, both of which were accomplished in the same run.  The MegaRamp combines the aspects of launch ramps, gaps, and banked landing pads of standard ramps.  At an astounding nine stories high, this ramp intimidates even Tony Hawk.  Tony Hawk only attempted the 60-foot gap, while Danny Way started at the highest point to win the competition.
The standard ramp used is a 12-foot half-pipe.  The MegaRamp is nine stories high and longer than a football field.  Danny Way also took something similar to the MegaRamp and jumped the Great Wall in China.  At such a great height, competitors have to ride an elevator to get to the higher roll-in.  Out of 11 competitors invited to the X-Games Big Air Competition, only 3 launched from the highest point.  The MegaRamp allows skaters to perform 720's over immense gaps and McTwists that are 50 feet off the ground.  (See Slate, http://www.slate.com/id/2124309)
Powerisers Jumping Stilts have also led to a great new extreme sport.  With curved springs, a gravitational energy is created that allows jumps of more than six feet in the air and running speeds of over 20 miles per hour that even Olympic athletes can't do.  Combined with simple runs and jumps, extreme athletes are adding their own movement combinations such as back flips and split kicks.  Powerbocking, named after originator Alexander Bock from Germany, implements an aerobic workout while enhancing muscle strength without the aid of batteries or power.
Birdman suits allow users to skydive without parachutes.  Jeb Corliss is a creator of the wingsuit, which provides speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.  This suit is not designed for base jumping; however, some people have had great flights from mountains.  As far as equipment for the suit, pinclosed containers are a must-have in either a 32” or 38” pilot chute size.

Cable Sports
700 foot swings from the peak of the world's second highest tower at 1,100 feet give people the ultimate adrenaline rush.  Similar swings have been taking place from smaller heights.  The swing is set on a viewing platform and allows users to swing out over the city.  Known as the “Game for Brave People,” the swing is located on the tower in Harbin City, China.
The Batman Rope, also known as the Atlas Rope Ascender, allows users to ascend more than 600 feet in the air at about 10 feet per second on one battery charge.  This rope has also found a home with the military because of its ability to pull a soldier up a repelling line, tow vehicles, and remotely move equipment and casualties.  The prototype rope operates on a battery and a motor from a bomb-disposal robot.  (See http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-atlas-rope-ascender-batman-rope/)
Vertical soccer is performed on a billboard that is 10 stories high in Tokyo.  The game is played with two players suspended by ropes with a tethered soccer ball.  In the new Adidas advertisement, vertical soccer is the focal point.  Upon seeing this ad, extreme athletes around the world have begun plans to incorporate this game into their lives.

Water Sports
The Powerski Jetboard by Powerski International is formed like a surf board, contains a 45 horsepower motor to generate G-forces up to 6G, and allows riders to get nearly horizontal.  The board provides rear thrust, rail, and 3 fins underneath to carve through water and snow easily.  A standing rider can easily perform high speed turns.  The handle on the board allows for balance, while also providing a start/stop button, thumb throttle, and safety kill switch.  (See GizMag, http://www.gizmag.com/go/3871/)
Jetbiking is the new form of water skiing.  In short, the jetbike is a motorcycle made for the water.  The bike uses a propulsion system and is  aerodynamic to allow for a smooth ride.  Developed by the AquaJet Corporation, the jetbike boasts dual front and rear steering, throttle off maneuverability, an integrated headlight, and taillight system as well as a lightweight construction.
Nuclear Globing is fun in a bubble... literally.  The Nuclear Globe is a 6 feet round ball that people can climb inside to go across the water.  Inset cups on the surface allow for better grip on the water, so you can paddle across easily.  Users can either play on the water alone, or they can find competition to bump and bounce each other on top of the water.  This inflatable sphere has people dying to climb inside for a test run.

For The Disabled
Disabled individuals aren't letting their problems interfere with their love of extreme sports.  In an event called Extreme Wheelchairing, those who are paralyzed perform amazing tricks in wheelchairs.  There are wheelchairs available that are customized to perform some of these stunts.  Some of the events include downhill mountain biking, off-road wheelchair, wheelchair racing and jumping, jousting, and sit-ski.
There are also distance events such as the Rollathon where athletes cross 200 miles in 7 days in a wheelchair.  There is also a trail ride, sponsored by Extreme Chairing, where athletes cross 43 miles of rough terrain in 3 days.  Among these sports, there are also more mainstream sports such as Quad Rugby and Paragliding.  Fourcross is a new extreme sport that takes advantage of lift assisted mountain bike parks.  The riding style here is a combination of mountain biking, rally car driving, supercross/motorcross, and high end off road truck racing.  (See Extreme Chairing, http://www.extremechairing.com/sports.html )

Mainstream
Other, more mainstream, extreme sports that are gaining in popularity run the gamut from one end to the other.  Street Luging is known as one of the most dangerous new extreme sports.  More recently, athletes slide down marked streets that are empty.  Originally, the stunt was performed through traffic.  Kite Jumping is also another pretty dangerous new extreme sport.  This is performed with a kite and periodically jumping into the air to let it pull you along.  (See http://www.cocktailworldcup.com/forum/thread/thread_id/0 )
