MotoGP: Best achievement for Zulfahmi

SEPANG Oct 23 — Malaysia”s Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin set the best achievement in his carreer so far after finishing seventh in the 125cc class of the MotoGP at the Sepang International Circuit today.
It was a sweet victory for the AirAsia-SIC-AJO Racing racer whose 20th birthday was last Thursday.
His achievement allowed him to collect nine points and improve his position by a rung to number 17 overall after 16 races.
The Banting-born racer raced pass Jakub Kornfeil of Ongetta-Centro Seta with two laps remaining of the total 18 laps to collect a total of 30 points so far this season.
The 125cc race was won by Spain”s Maverick Vinales of Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing, with a time of 40:34.280s.
Germany”s Sandro Cortese of Intact-Racing Team, finished second with 40:34.634s while French”s Johann Zarco of Avant-AirAsia-Ajo finished third with 40:36.735s.
"I”m extemely pleased with the race today. I started the race from the 13th position. By the fifth lap, I was among the top 10,” he told reporters.
He said that the contest for the best position with England”s Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo Motorsports), Spain”s Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Banca Civica) and Kornfeil had boosted his confidence in taking on the world-class riders.
"I can feel the local fans” support emitting from the terrace. I kept my speed and pushed further and began overtaking in the final five laps,” he said.
His compatriot, wildcard racer Mohd Farid Badrul Hisham, who finished 24th said he was safisfied with his performance and said it had given him immense exposure.
The race at the Sepang International Circuit was the second last of 17 series for this season. The final will be held at the Valencia Circuit, Spain on Nov 4-6.
