Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to build a new stadium to replace the Stamford Bridge Stadium. The new stadium with a capacity of 60.000 spectators will be built 4.8 kilometers from the old stadium.

However, Chelsea's Stamford Bridge had to sell to enable them to build a new stadium. With full ownership of the stadium that is not dominated by Chelsea, it is likely to cause difficulties to sell Stamford Bridge.

Most of Chelsea's shares were sold to their supporters in mid-1990 and in 1993, Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) was formed to prevent the stadium fell into the hands of others.

Chelsea now is attempting to persuade their supporters to sell their shares back to the Chelsea stadium Stamford Bridge to allow sale and a new stadium built.

If the process goes well planned, Chelsea expects the new stadium can be used before the year 2020.
